Being Vegan Makes YOU a Hero (Not a Pussy!)
Being Vegan Makes YOU a Hero (not a pussy!)
Fact: You can be a “real man” or strong woman and be vegan.
Fact: Being vegan makes YOU a hero!
We don’t have many vegan action heroes. Movies, media and even songs have led us to believe that we have to eat dead animals to be a badass. We all know people who want to be “tiger like”, martial artists that want to fight like a tiger (and we all know couch potatoes who watch action movies, but don’t do any exercise or martial arts, but they still think they should eat like a tiger too.) Most of us remember, however, how burned out (oh and let’s not forget GASSY) and lethargic we felt after eating a steak, or ribs. Yet most of us were raised to think that we needed to munch on a corpse for strength. We’ve heard it all before “to live and eat at the top of the food chain”. Reality is that we were just clogging our colons with indigestible flesh foods and gassy mucousy dairy products. Sluggish foods make us sluggish. Nobody rents a movie starring a sluggish action hero!
We don’t see reality in the movies. We don’t see the hero running around with a snot nose and a box of tissues because they are lactose intolerant. We don’t see the hero with a belly full of uncomfortable gas ripping giant farts because they ate meat and cheese on a pizza (not only not vegan, but a terrible food combination). We don’t see the hero with a big bulky distended colon full of digestive drama or the plaque from years of eating meat and not fully digesting it. We don’t see the hero sporting a backache from supporting their giant toxic belly.
Reality is that now we have many examples of strong agile vegan athletes and ultra marathoners. We know better. Or should. Look at the plethora of great vegan athletes here: http://www.greatveganathletes.com/
We not only want to encourage and applaud physical heroes, but ethical as well. There are so many paradigms and myths surrounding food and lifestyle. Animal rights are not the only reason to be vegan, but for most vegans it’s a primary reason; compassion. Just like adults or parents protecting children, when someone stands up for animals, they are a hero too. Look at the popularity of animal rescue today!
A great example of this is Charlie Hebdo in France and also Sea Shepherds- both animal rights leaders and both heroes.
Look at Farm Sanctuary and Gentle Barn, both animal rescuers and both heroes.
When you are a protector, you are a hero.

Here are some other reasons why folks might choose to be vegan:

These 6 Reasons Not to Give Up Your Vegan Diet are the same reasons that vegans are heroes. Here are some additional reasons:
- Protecting and saving the planet with an action. Have you seen Cowspiracy?
- Choosing to make better choices for your health to protect your loved ones as well as yourself.
- Protecting animals who cannot fend for themselves.
We need to let go of old misleading propaganda. Society seems to hang onto 2 stereotypes that entertain unhealthy antique ideas. Let’s reframe them:
- You can be strong, have endurance, be strong or macho as a vegan. Hunting, eating meat and smoking cigars are simply antique marketing and not a path to being manly. There is nothing macho or action-hero-like about having a heart attack or needing a stint inserted in your thigh to reach your heart.
- We can live and eat in luxury and age gracefully as vegans. No need to eat foie gras. There is nothing luxury about foie gras (if you don’t know more about that..look up the extreme unnecessary animal cruelty involved). Also please read The Slippery Slope of Pseudo Sophistication

We know there is protein in plant foods and that it’s more bio available.
We know that we can be vegan bodybuilders and ultra-marathoners.
We know that protecting is a hero quality, not a weakling quality.
I’m vegan but my clients and most of the world is not. I really intended to post this on a vegan only site, but I didn’t want to change the title. Hope it was thought provoking!
