Ave Maria v.2 January 2020, just a snippet. Scroll all the way down this page for a full Ave Maria explanation about my WHY Ave Maria with recording v.1.
I am only singing here in v.2, but this recording is significant because:
A. Not for everyone? This is for music freaks– the first vocal + bass only recording (hope you enjoy it), a rarity in the world!
B. The IDEAS for these Ave Maria arrangements are sprouting from my original idea (again, don’t miss scrolling all the way down this page for Ave Maria v.1 2019)
C. While there are some imperfections and volume levels are imperfect, etc. the concepts are interesting and evolving!
Ave Maria v.1 December 2019
Because I’m tardy in life to learn music, busy working and 1000 years old, I will NEVER feel that sharing any music is good enough. I don’t have a recording studio, I’m not that proficient on guitar, my breathing could be better, what if my Latin pronunciation is wrong?, I’m not Ella, etc. etc. The list of excuses can go on and on.
We like to say its never too late, but honestly sometimes it can be too late. We can read about Linda Ronstadt (I love her!) and her inability to sing anymore due to Parkinson’s disease, the disasters (fire and floods) caused by climate change, our stewardship fails and it can make us want to crawl under a rock to hide from it all. I understand.
On behalf of all these folks and all the critters in the ocean I feel like, “Whoa, I have to do this!”
Truths of life can be a motivator to do more, while we can do more.
I first heard this song, Ave Maria in English, in New York when I was a little girl at an anniversary service for my Sicilian immigrant grandparents and have always wanted to sing it.
Every moment is a gift, every creative idea is a gift and today, this is my concept; a cry for help for our ocean planet. SO as a thank you to you and our oceans, here’s my first shared imperfect production (just a cell phone recording with errors and all!).
Its different, it’s imperfect and it’s my art. You might not like it but here it is.
Of course I don’t speak Latin :). Yep, this is all me singing (in imperfect Latin) but not playing guitar this time. I learned this song in Latin recently (I haven’t been singing it for 20 years like some of the rock songs) and it suffers from being new-ish, but it’s significant to me for a few reasons, especially that the arrangement was my idea and with help it’s sprouting. This recording was my first day using this cool looking microphone too (Shure 55sh).
This was my first shared music recording ever, commemorating the holidays 2019. The arrangement continues to evolve, so we will hear more of this. I feel super musical contributing ideas to arrangements!
It’s time for us all to beg for help, for ourselves and our planet.
