Autonomous Car Named After First Female Grand Theft Auto

Mercedes-Benz S 500 PLUG-IN HYBRID (W 222) 2013 Overjoyed to learn about the Joyride! Google and Daimler (Mercedes) created the first autonomous cars.  An autonomous car is not necessarily an all electric car or hybrid car, but our examples here are both.  The Daimler car is called Bertha.  I was again, OVERjoyed to learn that Bertha is named after Bertha Benz

, wife of Carl Benz, who is credited with taking off on the first joyride ever (which is not the same as a Grand Theft Auto, just to be clear). http://www.daimler.com/dccom/0-5-1333262-1-1279444-1-0-0-1279537-0-0-135-0-0-0-0-0-0-0-0.html berthaHere’s more on Women and Daimler Cars: http://www.daimler.com/dccom/0-5-1279103-1-1279145-1-0-0-1279436-0-1-8-7145-0-0-0-0-0-0-0.html Now check out this sexy hybrid, the Mercedes autonomous driving S class, code named Bertha!  100 kilometer trip via the same historic route: http://www.daimler.com/dccom/0-5-1625161-1-1625165-1-0-0-1625162-0-1-8-7163-0-0-0-0-0-0-0.html More detail on the Mercedes S500 hybrid tech….NICE: 634788124293253140 http://www.daimler.com/dccom/0-5-1625161-1-1625171-1-0-0-1625162-0-1-135-7163-0-0-0-0-0-0-0.html ____________________ We’ve heard more about the self driving Google Car(s), and here we can see the difference.  Our first example is a modified Toyota Prius, and the link showcases a modified Lexus: googletoyota  http://www.cnet.com/news/google-claims-big-progress-in-self-driving-cars-street-smarts/ Our second example is where I think Google wants to go, the Google Prototype vehicle, which looks more space age.  They originally had this no steering wheel/no pedal option (but I hear tell that the DMV required that they add the steering wheel, so no worries we can still have Fluffy driving us to work): http://www.engineeringwellness.com/you-dog-can-drive-you-to-work Google-Autonomous-CarAt 25mph this is one to watch for awhile.  The prototype is a battery powered electric vehicle. http://online.wsj.com/articles/google-develops-prototype-cars-for-fully-autonomous-driving-1401246529 This car is much nerdier as it looks like the Little Tykes car:418MYkrVT5L._SY300_ Benefits of autonomous cars can improve everyone’s life.  Watch this video featuring a vision impaired man utilizing a Google Car: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cdgQpa1pUUE

Thank you Bertha! Thank you Bertha for taking off in your husband’s car! This is what is out there now, and we can hope to see more features that will make our carbon footprint smaller, the environment cleaner, our lives more efficient, and cut down on our transportation costs.  I’m a longtime nerd, however, I would like to see some style return with our car investments, so I thank Bertha again for being the pioneer to a very sexy hybrid!
