Unhealthy Ways to Lose Weight
Weight loss is not a competition we can “win”. If you’re winning, you might require hospitalization.
Sadly, there are too many unhealthy ways to lose weight.
I am not a doctor. Please direct medical questions to your doctor or medical professional.
I only support, promote and advocate healthy weight loss that does not include any drastic measures.
Losing weight, changing the number on the scale, can happen in some VERY unhealthy ways.
People do seek out horrific measures and habits just to lose weight.
This list is important because people will CHOOSE to do some of these things to lose weight. Often their choices will be hidden and secret.
Of course many of these grim ways to lose weight can accompany unthinkable consequences:
1. Street Drugs
2. Eating Disorder-Anorexia
3. Eating Disorder-Bulimia
4. Smoking
5. Fad Diets
6. Exercise addiction
7. Weight Loss Surgery (Drastic Measures)
8. Unnecessary Pharmaceuticals –Weight Loss Pills, or pills for something else that can cause weight loss (For example, I’ve seen teenagers cry ADD or ADHD so they could qualify for a drug that would speed them up and they lose weight as a side effect).
9. Starvation
10. Losing a limb due to disease (i.e. Diabetes)
11. Disease. Of course, some diseases are not preventable, but some are clearly diseases of lifestyle (Heart, Diabetes, etc.). Disease is a terrible and unfortunate condition. Disease can produce an unhealthy way to lose weight.
You might not see all of these but they are around us.
I see them often.
Some of these habits start young. Too young.
If we are not taught any other way, or have any other examples, some people will cycle through this list. They won’t announce it.
