Time Management For Life “I don’t have time.” That is…
The Benefits of Live Training versus Online Video Classes
The Benefits of Live Training versus Online Video Classes
There are thousands of video training courses available online today. There are lots of things that you can learn from “canned” video presentations… unless you can’t! Millions of us fall asleep in a few minutes if we have to sit and watch videos. Often I can’t get past the intro and I’ve already lost interest.
The subjects that can be taught effectively via video learning might be mostly easily equated to 100 level classes in college. Basic mathematics, Psychology 101, and the alphabet can all be taught quite effectively through video. These are the foundational subjects and they are not really open to interpretation.
Once you graduate your most basic studies, to actually learn something you need to have a more interactive learning program. Personalized training achieves successful results. You need to be able to ask questions, dig a little deeper, and be held accountable. The solution is a real human trainer/mentor online or face-to-face. A do-it-yourself video course might be fine for learning to bake cookies or learn primary numbers in another language. Topics beyond that or more complex ideas, such as how to get into shape, improve your life, manage a project or grow your business, cannot be taught through a video course designed to work for everyone.
Insomnia Solved!
For me, I simply can’t learn that way. No matter how hard I try, it doesn’t work. When a video starts talking at me, I am curled up sleeping like a baby in minutes. Worse if it’s someone with a sterile white background (and tragic if I can see their laundry in the background!) Few speakers can keep my interest for more than a few minutes, and even the best lose me via video.
Actual ACCOUNTABILITY:
I know you wanted to learn Tai Chi so you bought all the videos and signed up for an online course, but NOTHING is happening if you’re not watching them, or they just sitting in a pile on your shelf. People are interested in subjects that require one-on-one interaction for actual learning to happen. The vital factor is that there is personal accountability. When you work directly with an instructor, there is the opportunity for someone to keep you on the right path. They can see when you are struggling (or snoozing!).

Some folks can learn from videos and if you’re that person, I applaud you. If you can’t, then you, like me, need a real live person to help you learn and grow. You will learn faster, learn more thoroughly, and save money working with someone who can respond directly to your needs.
