Mii Amo Sedona, the Red Planet
Mii Amo Sedona, the Red Planet
Sedona Arizona USA is an amazing little place full of red rock vistas, beauty and energy. The dirt and sand are a beautiful rich red color. The rocks are full of minerals and sparkle in the sunlight.
The rocks around Sedona contain vortex, which are said to be full of energy, though I can’t seem to ever find any scientific analysis (you know, no Geiger counter readings etc.). I’m not saying the numbers don’t exist, but I could not easily find them. There are maps available everywhere and the vortex are clearly marked.
Sedona is home to many metaphysical businesses (psychics, vortex tours, etc.) and the little town has a very UFO/Alien friendly vibe. You can engage that or avoid it. (I’ve never been bothered by it).
The entire town has an amazing view, like being inside a postcard. If you want to get closer to a vortex, however, you would have to take a jeep or 4×4 tour, or hike. Hikes vary in difficulty and duration.
Originally, Sedona (no known specific meaning) got its name from Sedona Arabella Miller Schnebly was the wife of the town’s first postmaster, Theodore Carl Schnebly. The names, original choices of Creek Crossing and Schnebly’s Station, were turned down by the town’s Post Office because they were deemed to be too long.
If you don’t like the outdoors you can still enjoy Sedona from a room with a view.
What to Bring:
You should bring all your outdoor stuff.
If you mountain bike, bring it.
If you hike or walk, bring all your outdoor equipment such as:
Appropriate shoes (that you don’t mind getting full of mineral rich red mud)
Backpack
Water carrying device (camelback, backpack or ?)
Sunhat
Sunscreen/Skin Protection (it is the desert..think dry!)
Lip protection (it is the desert)
I’ve never needed bug spray
What to See:
You can buy a book or get an app (or both) that give you the hiking or biking trail information.
At least go up to Airport Trail at Sunset.
If the outdoors isn’t your thing, then I recommend going for Art Galleries:
Exposures International Gallery
http://www.exposuresfineart.com/
Tlaquepaque Arts & Crafts Village
Goldstein Gallery
http://www.goldensteinart.com/
For fun, go check out this place. I would not eat there, but just go check out the fun aliens:
Red Planet Diner
I love the fence outside of the diner! Check out their supercool decor
What to Wear:
It’s still the desert so think of the extremes. It’s very cold in winter and very hot in summer. Bring it all! There are plenty of clothing stores there as well, so don’t worry if you forgot something.
What to Eat:
Chocolat Tree
Chocolat Tree is the only vegan place in Sedona right now and worth a visit every time. Bring a chocolate budget. You will buy chocolate here! They have a beautiful glass chocolate display case the size of Sees Candy, but with healthy vegan chocolates of all flavors and types (You have to see it!). Excellent vegan hot chocolate and hummus. Awesome vegan desserts like coconut cream pie, chocolate pie and tiramisu. Wonderful art displayed and an overall cool vibe abounds. There is a big heart on the roof of the building, created in red lights, with the words LOVE in the center. Lovely patio too, weather willing. Small concession in the back with lots of unique gift items including rocks and gems.
Thai Spices
Chef Pearl is amazing. I didn’t eat anywhere else during my last trip! I have the Three Herbs Vitality Vegetables (well without garlic, so it was literally 2 herbs).
I’m a Food Snob, and a Vegan (and an organic cookbook author) and this might have been the best Thai Food I’ve ever eaten. THEY HAVE SO MANY GREAT INTERESTING easy to identify VEGAN CHOICES!!! Tempeh and Tofu! Know that I am not a purist and I don’t know if this is really truly “traditional Thai food”. I have, however, been to a zillion Thai food restaurants and this was the best. The food was fresh, not oily, had amazing flavors, abundant portions and they have great service and beautiful photo art on the walls. We had the Fresh Roll Wrap(Vegetable–see photo), Tom Yum and Ginger Vegetable Soups, Cucumber Salad (great dressing!), Vegetarian Pad Thai with Tofu, Almond Curry Vegetables (Thai style), Three Herbs Vitality (Ginger, Garlic & Turmeric) with Vegetable and they had Brown Rice which is always nice! Bring the family; any foodie can be accommodated here with whatever their protein preference is. Do not miss this Sedona Gem!
Groceries?
There are natural food grocerys and a farmer’s market too!
If you want to join me on a Sedona expedition, let me know!
The world famous Mii Amo spa is also there. Let’s go!
