“A person with a hundred interests is twice as alive as one with only fifty and four times as alive as the man who has only twenty-five.”
Norman Vincent Peale
Niche niche niche. How boring! Could a great President have only one skill or excel in one area? To lead you have to be good at many things AND know how to manage time and priorities so you can also be a finisher. It’s not enough to run after everything that sparkles or trends. You have to prioritize and be able to get sh*t done.
Someone told me that each website should have one topic so that it’s not confusing. Then I went to Pismo Beach and saw this sign for The Sewing Cafe and it was like a divine vision; I photograph it every time I’m there. I love it. It’s a creative example of how to pay retail rent and use time and space efficiently. I imagine that they teach sewing by day and food by night (I have no idea really). THIS is a better idea then just doing one thing and going out of business. I’ve seen a lot of small empty storefronts since 2007 in California.
If I had a website for each interest I would be managing 10,000 sites. If you’re sitting on 10,000 domain names because you thought you had to niche for each thought you have, maybe this will enlighten you.
I can’t write about ONE topic forever. I can’t. That’s not who I am. I’m a global cross functional project expert mover and shaker. I was recently called a workaholic polymath. I am a Renaissance Woman. No matter what hat I put on, I still end up working global projects, and they are always different. Each project and person I work with are different. Online fitness/wellness/coaching clients are all different too!
CEOs are expected to have a wide range of skill and proficiency too.
New nouns or verbs require new knowledge (people/place/things/actions).
What if you sell insurance? Then what would you blog about, Insurance for 10 years? OMG I won’t read you!
Same for a dead theme. What if your theme is shoes. Will you only use shoes as a metaphor forever?
Someone recenly told me, “Well you can’t excel unless you’re focused on one thing.” Really?

“My blog has more than one topic.”
This blog has evolved from “wellness for engineers” to “fitness and wellness for all” and now it’s the voice of me, Michele the Trainer the complete human, who still works and lives a lot of technology. I’m confident that you are smart enough to comprehend that I’m a complete human with personality. YOU ARE TOO!
I don’t ONLY talk about jumping jacks with my fitness clients and I don’t ONLY talk about tech with engineers. Who the hell wants to talk about exercise when they’re working out? Unless it’s an interesting bit about anatomy and form, not me!
It takes all of us to coexist in the fish tank of life. I work with a lot of “one topic” people who have insane (maybe OCD..lol) focus. That’s cool, but it’s not me. Who are you?
“Trust at some point someone is going to recognize that you are an artist, not a can of soda.”
