I'll be the first to admit, that I am guilty…
Its Not Easy Being Green!
Can we really Green up our cube?
Did you know that NASA recommends plants for cleaning the air?
There are two socially accepted plants for today’s workplace based on NASA studies; Bamboo and Spiderplants.
This may surprise you but I’m going to recommend having one or two dead plants in your cube. Wellness means less stress. Therefore if blending in and laying low makes you feel more relaxed and less stressed, then dead plants are far more acceptable. Middle management will observe and then surmise, “Wow that person is working SO HARD that their plant died.” Because logic and intelligence would dictate that keeping plants thriving indoors would be a sign of education (hey you read the NASA study!), environmental responsibility, success, of multitasking and of time management. However, don’t overestimate the audience :).
Further, in the mood of blending in at work…I actually also do NOT recommend the following fun ideas for your cube–but these could be TOTALLY fun for the home. If televisions Michael Scott (from The Office) is your boss, and you share a Mega Desk with Dwight Schrute…then maybe you can try these conversation pieces on your desk:
If you’re feeling GREEN and operations shared the NASA study with the executive team at the latest board meeting, then by all means get one either bamboo or spiderplants in your cube and upgrade your air quality! Keep your justification documentation handy. You could laminate the NASA study and keep it next to your reference pile of RFC’s.
