The Cube Moocher That Wouldn’t Leave…
I always encourage everyone to drink more water; water water.
Here is a way to get in more hydration during your workday. Here’s the plan…we are going to learn to identify Cube Moochers and use them as a way to motivate us to get up and refill our water.
What is a Cube Moocher? We’ve all known the cubicle busybody that will come over and not only interrupt your work, but “borrow” all of your gum, candy, soda, etc…(which, of course, I’m less worried about.)
But what about your items of wellness (IoW)? Your organic snacks, not to mention your organic hand creme and your Kleenex!! What about your anti flu aromatherapy spray? The madness must stop!
Feeling tired at the end of the day? Are these cubicle moochers also draining your energy? How can we ever workout together if the cube moochers vampire all of your energy? No wonder you’re feeling so tired after work!
Cube moocher parasites will suck your energy and also, create more work for you by using all of your Kleenex! Who wants to spend the weekend at the store? You can have boundaries and the people that you want to work with will understand. The most demanding vampires are usually, the most undeserving of a lending hand, (I’ve found).
The best strategy?; GET UP AND MOVE. They are like FREE GIANT REMINDERS…think of them as a loving (and funny) reminder from ME to get off you’re a$$ and get some water!
So you can either sit and be a victim, or use them as a reminder to GET OUT OF YOUR CHAIR and refill your water bottle.
Some of you might remember the very funny Saturday Night Live skit by John Belushi called “The Thing That Wouldn’t Leave”, where he plays a house guest that arrives unannounced and torments a couple played by Jane Curtin and Bill Murray, by making himself at home on their couch and eating all their food/snacks and taking control of their television, magazines and newspapers. He totally terrorizes torments and stresses them out. Cube Moochers are quite similar!
Here’s the plan;
- Identify them
- Visualize “GIANT REMINDER” (say to yourself…”oh yes, time for me to get some water!”)
- Get up and refill your water
Stay tuned for next week’s episode…”OOH That Smell…Is that Perfume or Anaphylaxis ?”
