Corroding Confidence
I KNOW I got a real live personal response this week from the great James Altucher (I’ve sent it out to be bronzed) ….when James offers an MBA I’ll be his first student:
Knowing creates inner confidence.
I teach or extract confidence. I’m the “you can do it” person; Your Personal Cheerleader.
Here’s the problem with that….
When you stand up and say, “Yes I lost 165 pounds”– inevitably some asshole will ask you, “Hey would you like a Cookie?”
Like when spectators observe a car race and something inside them wants to see a crash. Like wanting and hoping to see Oprah gain all her weight back. It’s just not cool and those people are not my people, and if you’re reading this, they are not your people either. If you are “entertaining” them, like entertaining bad thoughts (I always imagine inviting a bad idea over for tea, with a lace napkin and all), ponder that.
Now let me share with you a % of the day in the life of Michele the Trainer…chock filled with people that never leave their desk, that want me to prove myself, again and again and again and again.
“We need to see you audition for the cycle class”
Really? Apparently resume is not enough. Because the message is that we are not enough or that we are misrepresenting. I work at the largest hospitals and universities in the USA, does your lack of awareness necessitate that we have to assemble an audience for me to revolve my feet around a wheel in the dark for you? Or, are my pants on fire?
Oh I’m sorry <true sorry is the root of confidence corrosion–sarcastic sorry can be fun!>…You want me to audition because my cycle license has expired?
In the 70’s when we wore no helmet, did we need a license?
How about your expired Latin Dance Certification?….We need to pay an annual fee for that….even if you’re Latin?
Or what about the magic fitness ball? Do you have a license for that?
Hula Hoop—have you renewed your annual fee? The Hula police may come for you.
Am I not good enough without all these fees? I must not be. <sarcasm>
Confidence comes from your core… KNOWING that we used to Big Wheel with no license and no helmet. Knowing who wants to know us. Knowing who we are from the inside out.
I want to know YOU…reach back!
