Coco Loco

Aloha Endless Summer-ites!

To prevent heatstroke when it’s hot hot hot, our bodies need some basic things:

  • minerals/electrolytes
  • hydration
  • shade (including hat, light colored clothing, etc.)

Staying hydrated with water and fluids is the foundation of fueling your body and your workout.  In the summer, walking outside is often enough to lose some precious minerals via perspiration.

But what if you are outside walking for 30 minutes??  For more than one hour?  Will water be enough to maintain endurance and energy?  Probably not!

Please remember folks that when we exert ourselves and perspire, we are losing electrolytes and those minerals need to be replenished.  The major electrolytes are sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium.

The most natural source of electrolytes comes from fresh young coconut water.

Be wary of the sugars associated with sports drinks, especially if you are watching your blood sugar, and some of those drinks have no or few electrolytes.  Also be mindful of not OVER hydrating as hyponatremia can occur if you dilute your electrolytes.  <<rare but yes I’ve seen it happen twice actually…so it does get a mention>>

Yes real coconuts!  Plus you get a workout just from opening them!

I spend a lot of time tracing the mother companies of many packaged products, including organic packaged products and also  packaged coconut water…

the benefits are always LESS because it’s more PROCESSED….and you might be surprised to know who owns some of those packaged coco drinks….send me your guesses!!
