Jack Bauer Saved My Twitter Account

Chloe: [over the phone, frantic] Jack, I know this isn’t protocol! Please don’t hang up!

I’ve had a Twheadace for awhile now.

Boring Details–you can choose to skip reading this part:

Since my Twitter account hit 2000 people, it’s been a daily grind for over a year to reach 3000.  Everyday I’m told that I cannot reciprocate following the people that are following me (new people follow me each day, and I’m unable to follow back.)

So I’ve dealt with that by using another program, not free, that allows you to see who is NOT following you and you can UNFOLLOW them so you can try to FOLLOW your FOLLOWERS.

Then you see some guy on Twitter with a name like PUSSYWILLOW of course he’s got animated bouncing breasts for his avatar, and he has like 500,000 followers.  Will I ask him how he got them?  No thank you!

New this week:

You’re LOCKED OUT!

This week, because I have a new ebook to launch, of course I get a Twitter notification that says ‘You’re Locked Out”.

The solution?  Oh they want to text me on my cell phone.  To provide my number.   My personal cell number? Well guess what, I don’t have one.

<I’m receiving notifications via email all day “So and So is following you on Twitter,” but I was unable to follow back.>

The Fun:

I talked to my friend Pamela Gordon in Montreal <yes, you caught that eh? On my phone that I don’t have :)> and she said, “Just buy one of those phones from the store.”

I laughed, “You mean a Jack Bauer phone?”  We all know he would never make it without Chloe, but anyway, back to our story.

Chloe O’Brian: Jack, you’ve come to me for help many times, and I’ve never let you down. You’ve asked me to do crazy things, and I’ve always taken your side. Please. Help me. I can’t do this by myself.

Now re-enabling my Twitter is becoming like subplot of Orphan Black (#clonephones).

I’m still stuck on the visual of Jack Bauer’s flip phone.

My 24 Rant:  If you’re gonna work at CTU, how about a backup phone Jack!

A New Day:

<I’m STILL receiving notifications via email all day “So and So is following you on Twitter,” but I was STILL unable to follow back.>

Today, all bright and shiny, I decided to take my problem to the Internet Mother Google.

I found an article (in good HuffPo fashion), “top-10-sites-receive-sms-online-without-phone/”

Did a find for the word “reliable”.  Only 2/10 apparently.

Found a service that gives you a phone number for Estonia.  Hey I have a friend from there, what the hell.

Tried it fast, late for work, tried it, and it didn’t work.  FAIL!  Time to go to work. Bah!

Laughing all day still thinking about Jack Bauer’s crappy phone, and what my new life living in Estonia is like. Wondering, “Will I just let it go, really, just let it go.  Do I really need Twitter?”

Clarification;  Estonia is NOT Dilbert’s Elbonia, just to make sure you’re not worried about the flight.

WWCD (What WOULD Chloe do?)

Later in the day, I simmered it down and I actually read the Estonian SMS directions this time :).

Nailed it.

“Your Account Is UNLOCKED!”

Morris O’Brian: Chloe… Chloe: You know, this is a nice moment. Let’s not ruin it by saying something stupid.

Adios Twheadaches!

I want to thank Pamela, the fine country of Estonia for hosting me and my SMS, the Elbonian airport, and of course the all knowing Chloe O’Brian (Mary Lynn Rajskub).
